Portraiture FactsWhat sort of location should we be looking for?The background is very important in a photograph, as is the detail in a scene – color, texture and light. I will take this into consideration when we discuss the shoot, as it contributes hugely to the overall quality of the final image. Location can be rural, city based, in a park, on a beach or even in your own garden. This is entirely the client’s choice as you may have somewhere special to you that you would like to be included in the final image. What sort of clothing should we wear? Loose flowing clothes are better than tight however it can depend a lot on whether this is a formal shot or a much more relaxed shot. Colours should ideally be neutral beiges, khakis creams – light – midtones. Plain and casual is best as people are usually more relaxed when dressed this way. So materials like denim, cotton, and linen etc work well. It is usually best not to wear garments with logos on them as these can date very quickly and you will hopefully want to enjoy this photograph for many years to come. How do we get the child to relax and get the most out of the shoot? When I first meet with you I will not have the camera with me. It is best to meet the family first almost as a friend of the parents. Once the child starts to relax then I let them get to know me at their own pace. By getting down to their level and chatting to them about their favourite toys / clothes etc it assures the child and makes them more relaxed. What equipment is used? I use digital SLR cameras with a variety of lenses to achieve a broad range of shots. Digital cameras are fantastic in low light and allow for a huge amount of creativity. No film changes are required meaning that no moments are missed. Much digital imaging work is undertaken after the photoshoot is over. Each image is assessed for tone and colour. Enhancements are made such as reducing skin blemishes, soft focusing, selective colour, tinting, black and white, sepia etc. How do we choose our images? Within 7-10 days of the shoot I will either come and see you and go through the images with you or alternatively post to you a contact sheet with the images on for you to choose from together with a DVD Slideshow of all the images proofed. At that point we can discuss the frames and the number of images you would like to purchase. Approximately 3-4 weeks after you have chosen your images and frames, the finished product will be ready. |
