PORTRAITURE SERVICES - AJM Photography specializes in informal, on location images to capture important moments in family life using both a relaxed and creative approach. I am looking to capture those very intimate moments as well as a true reflection of the personalities being photographed. I use digital SLR technology together with creative photo imaging techniques that are applied to the images in the digital darkroom after the shoot. 

THE SITTING - The sitting is very relaxed which results in unposed photographs. It can vary from 1-2 hours depending on the number of family members to be photographed. If I am photographing a child, the time of day for the sitting has to be right to suit the child’s best time of day and is discussed with you beforehand. It is also best to prepare the child for the photographic experience. Discussing the shoot beforehand is most beneficial. 

THE LOCATION - The location is discussed ahead of the photo shoot in an informal consultation usually in the client’s home. This meeting enables us to discuss the possibility of visiting a favourite location, one that is significant to you, as the venue for your photographic shoot. On the other hand it could involve deciding where within the home you would like the shoot to take place.

CLOTHING - Plain and casual is best. Materials like denim, cotton and linen are ideal and the best colours are the light to mid tone range. These could encompass neutrals, khakis, natural creams, beiges etc. Also plain clothes are better than clothes with logos on them. These can quickly date with time.

Jewellery should be kept to a minimum as should fashion accessories as again these can quickly date an image.

For babies, a nappy and bare skin, look great or instead plain clothes like dungarees or a favourite dress in denim.

Remember to include a favourite toy for younger children as they often feel more at home if they bring a toy with them. This will help them settle during the shoot and help to provide images which in years to come will hold many happy memories.
